Martina Krupičková

1975, born – Ledeč nad Sázavou (Háj), grew up – Světlá nad Sázavou, Czech Republic.

I graduated from a prestigious fashion design school in Brno, Czech Republic, majoring in Textile and Knitwear; this is where I developed my skill of drawing and painting.

I love classic paintings, especially from the Impressionist period and like many artists I’m fascinated by light and perspective. Many of my pictures feature nature, cityscapes and transport – from what I see in my life. Everything is changing constantly and nothing ever appears in the exact same manner twice, which is the inspiration for my work.

My first oil painting was in 1999. I started with canvas sizes in the 100 x 100 cm range; all characterized by strong colour and bold strokes on a black background playing with light and shadow. A palette knife is used in the creation of these paintings. Recently, I’ve experimented with smaller canvases (40 x 40 cm to 60 x60 cm). I still use a palette knife. Since that first painting in 1999, I believe I’ve developed my own style. The light is the most important part of the painting. It can give the right sparkle or completely destroy it. I try to capture the right balance of light and shadow to add depth.

I reside most of the year and create in Prague, but when I can, I escape to my home town of Svetla and into nature.

I’ve held several successful exhibitions in the Czech Republic. The picture Posázavský Pacifik was selected and exhibited at Royal Academy of Art Summer Exhibition in London 2008. My paintings are held in private collections in the Czech Republic, UK, USA, Belgium, France, Sweden, Canada and Slovak Republic. I was also interviewed on Czech Television CT1 Dobre Rano and the popular talk-show Vsechnoparty.
