Julija Levkova nació en Riga, Letonia, el 22 de abril de 1981. Ahora vive y trabaja entre
Países Bajos y Bélgica. Desde su juventud ha estado interesada en las pinturas de la
Edad de Oro holandesa con pintores como Rembrandt, van Huysum y Rubens. Ha
pasado mucho tiempo en museos de todo el mundo y en la biblioteca familiar, llena de
libros de historia y arte. Interesada en la fotografía y en aprender sus aspectos
técnicos, estudió en Antwerpen & Breda (Academia de Bellas Artes & Escuela de
Fotografía). Su trabajo ha sido expuesto alrededor de todo el mundo incluyendo
grandes ciudades como Londres, Venecia o Nueva York.
Sus últimos trabajos integran múltiples imágenes en una abundancia visual de belleza
hipernatural que otorga a sus fotografías una tensión que no deja a nadie indiferente,
a la vez que son atractivas y accesibles.
Respecto a esto, Julija dice: “Me inspiran los grandes temas de la vida: la soledad, la
vulnerabilidad, las emociones puras y crudas de la vida diaria. Mi objetivo es poner
estos elementos juntos para reconstruir, para descubrir, de qué manera veo el
mundo”.
Julija Levkova was born in Riga, Latvia at 22 april 1981. Now she lives and works
between The Netherlands and Belgium. Starting from youth interesting in paintings
form the golden age in the Netherlands with painters as Rembrandt, van Huysum and
Rubens. She spent a lot of time in museums all over the world and in the home library
filled with books about history and art. Interesting in photography and to learn
technical aspects she studied in Antwerpen & Breda (Academy of Fine Arts & School of
Photography). Her work has been exebited across the World including big cities like
London, Venice, New York.
Her latest works integrate multiple images in a visual abundance of hyper-natural
beauty that gives her photos a tension that leaves no one untouched while still being
engaging and accessible.
On this subject Julija says: “I am inspired by the big themes in life, loneliness,
vulnerability, the raw pure emotions in daily life. I just want to put things together to
rebuilt, to discover in what way I see the world.”
