Maaria:
«My paintings are figurative images in which I combine realistic form and flat decorative surfaces. Patterns and colours play an important role as active element as the human figures. The decorativeness is above all on aesthetic choice but it also favours the contents of my paintings. My working can start simply from an interesting composition of figures when the actual theme clears up during the painting process or from a clear topic which anyhow develops new levels. I am interested on how people act and behave in the present time. In my works I deal with gender roles and politics as well as partying and absurd situations of everyday life.»
Mis pinturas son imágenes figurativas en las cuales combino formas realistas y superficies decorativas planas. Los patrones, los colores y las figuras humanas juegan un papel importante como elemento activo. La decoratividad es sobre todo la elección estética, pero también favorece el contenido de mis pinturas. Mi trabajo puede parecer simplemente una composición de figuras que entiendo interesante cuando realmente el tema real va desarrollándose en el proceso con diferentes y nuevos niveles. Estoy interesado en cómo las personas actúan y se comportan en el tiempo presente. En mis obras me ocupo de los roles y la política de género, así como de las situaciones de fiesta y absurdas de la vida cotidiana.
